Helminthophobia: The Fear of Worms or of Being Infested with Worms

Helminthophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of worms or of being infested with worms.
A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.
Do you suffer from Helminthophobia?  Please share your story.  How was it triggered and how does it affect your life?

I have a fear of worms. I find that I avoid everything to do with them, when it rains, I will not go outside, and I will not wear flip flops. If I step on one, I am afraid the other end will slap my feet. I cant look at them or have someone pick them up around me in fear that they will get thrown on me. It is a very irrational fear but if someone does come near me with one, I lock myself in a room for hours at a time, I sweat, cry, hyperventilate, I am very aware of my surroundings, I can't stop looking around, I loose my breath and shake and sometimes black out. I have constant nightmares that they are in my bed, or getting caught in my hair. I have a repeating nightmare of a ball of worms swimming towards me in a swimming pool and nomatter what, I can't get away. I am only 18 and I fear that this condition will only become worse.
