Nosemaphobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of becoming ill.  This phobia is more common in students and researchers who spend a lot of time reading about diseases.  Nosophobia is often referred to as Medical Student’s disease and Cyberchondria.  Nosemaphobia is also known as Nosophobia.
A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.

Nosocomephobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of hospitals.  This phobia may be triggered by Nosophobia, the fear of becoming ill.  Nosocomephobia may also be triggered by a traumatic illness, accident or the death of a loved one in a hospital.  Those who suffer from this phobia will refuse any kind of medical treatment that has to be done in a hospital.

Myctophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of darkness.  This phobia is extremely common in children, but it often occurs in adults too.  The fear of the unknown lurking in the darkness and horror movies are usually the most common triggers of Myctophobia.  Myctophobia is also known as Noctiphobia and Lygophobia.

Teratophobia: The Fear of Bearing a Deformed Child


Teratophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of bearing a deformed child.  It also is the fear of monsters or deformed people.  This phobia is also known as Dysmorphophobia.

Technophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of technology.  This phobia is closely related to Cyberphobia, the fear of computers and technology and Logizomechanophobia, the fear of computers.

Taphephobia: The Fear of Being Buried Alive or of Cemeteries


Taphephobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of being buried alive or of cemeteries.  This phobia made the top 10 list of bizarre phobias, but I don’t see this one as bizarre at all.  I know those of us with phobias take our fear to the extreme, but who doesn’t fear being buried alive.  The thought of it is terrifying and I don’t even have this phobia.  Taphephobia is also known as Taphophobia.
