Batrachophobia: The Fear of Amphibians

Batrachophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of amphibians such as frogs, newts, salamanders, etc.  Those who suffer from this phobia do whatever is necessary to avoid these things and many are unable to even view pictures of amphibians.  Batrachophobia is closely related to Bufonophobia, the fear of toads.

A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.

Do you suffer from Batrachophobia?  Please share your story.  How was it triggered and how does it affect your life?

My nine year old son suffers from this. He has to observe a dwarf frog in school this week and it is very traumatic. Any ideas for overcoming would be greatly appreciated.
