Taphobia: The Fear of Being Buried Alive

Taphobia is the abnormal and irrational fear of being buried alive.  This one made the top 10 list of bizarre phobias.  I don’t think this one is so bizarre.  Who wouldn’t fear being buried alive?  As with all of us who suffer from we can take our fear to the absolute extreme, but I still feel that this one is one of the more logical phobias.

A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.

Egrasiophobia: The Fear of Work

Egrasiophobia is the strong and persistent fear of work.  I see this one three ways.  One is that a person suffered a traumatic accident at work that could have triggered the phobia.  Two is that a person is too shy and lacks social skills to feel comfortable working and therefore the phobia is triggered.  Three is that they simply don’t want to work and somehow that thinking leads to this phobia.

Ephebophobia: The Fear of Teenagers

Ephebophobia is the persistent and irrational fear of teenagers or youth.  This one was found on a list of the top 10 bizarre phobias.  I personally don’t see this phobia as being bizarre.  If you are a parent of a severely troubled child or have had some involvement with one it’s easy to see how this phobia would develop.
