Plutophobia: The Fear of Wealth

Plutophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of wealth.  There are those who don’t have a lot of money who dream of great wealth, those who have a lot of money who realize the implications of such and those who will never have it or give it all away because they fear it.  Some with Plutophobia have had great wealth, but something traumatic happened to trigger the phobia and others have never had money, but for some reason still fear it.  Regardless money is viewed as something evil.
A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.

Pluviophobia: The Fear of Rain or of Being Rained On

Pluviophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of rain or of being rained on.  I had this phobia when I was really young.  My parents had to wrap me in a blanket from head to toe and carry me out if it was raining or I would scream and cry like someone was killing me.  It passed as I got older and now I love going out when it’s raining.  Some people aren’t so lucky and still have to deal with this phobia as adults.  You could also say that cats have Pluviophobia.

Fear Quotes

Don’t let your fears, whether they be phobias or not, control your life.  Overpower them and then overcome them.  Don’t live your life saying what if this and what if that.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You’re playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”      ~ Marianne Williamson, Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles"

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”  ~ Paulo Coelho, The Alchemis

“A man that flies from his fear may find that he has only taken a short cut to meet it.”
~ J.R.R. Tolkien, The Children of Húrin

“I have accepted fear as part of life – specifically the fear of change... I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back....”
~ Erica Jong

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
~ Nelson Mandela

“Don't be afraid of your fears. They're not there to scare you. They're there to let you know that something is worth it.”
~ C. JoyBell C.

And my favorite...

“It's better to die laughing than to live each moment in fear.”
~ Michael Crichton

Do something today that you are afraid to do. Don’t let your fear hold you back from succeeding in your life. Be brilliant…be fearless!

Scriptophobia: The Fear of Writing or Writing in Public

Scriptophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of writing or writing in public. I’ve heard of writers developing this phobia after feeling they have failed in their careers.  They feel that if they stop writing all together then they can’t fail and they will no longer have to face the rejection that every writer is all too familiar with.  This phobia can affect anyone at any time.  Read personal stories of those who suffer from Scriptophobia here.
