Commitment Phobia: The Fear of Commitment

Do you have a fear of commitment? Commitment phobia affects the lives of many people. It doesn’t matter if it’s your cell phone contract, that new job or a new relationship, commitment phobia can have a harmful impact on your life.

So you really want that new phone, but you have to extend your contract another two years…ummmm never mind I don’t want the phone that bad. That new job sounds great, but it requires atleast a year commitment. You really need the extra money it would provide, but you just can’t do it. You’ve really been feeling that person you’ve been dating for the last 2 years, but you break out in hives every time you hear the word marriage.

Those who have this phobia are major “what if” thinkers. What if I want to switch cell phone carriers? What if I hate the new job? What if I get married and I meet someone else? What if…what if…what if?! You can “what if” everything in your life, but the bottom line is that it’s not going to change anything. If you hide from everything, your life will become so isolated that no one in their right mind will want to deal with you anymore.

If you suffer from commitment phobia get help, because living with an out of control phobia is not living.

What are you afraid of committing to and why?

Chionophobia: The Fear of Snow

Chionophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of snow. This phobia can be caused by a traumatic snowstorm or like other phobias you may not know exactly what triggered the fear. Most people with phobias just know that they have them and never really know why.

This is a phobia where you can separate yourself from the fear, but it would involve moving. If you live in an area where there is lots of snow every year then you may want to consider moving somewhere it doesn’t snow very much or at all.

Phobias sometimes sound funny, but they can become serious medical conditions so don’t hesitate on getting help because you’re afraid of being laughed at. Phobias disrupt lives and should always be taken seriously.

If you suffer from Chionophobia, please share your story.

Euphobia: The Fear of Getting Good News

There are tons of phobias and while some can be easily understood, others are not. Euphobia is the irrational fear of hearing good news. Can you imagine? If I get good news then it’s great day no matter what else happens. Those who have Euphobia are basically afraid of or strongly dislike anything that brings happiness.

Those who suffer from Euphobia do not have the ability to be happy for someone else and they cannot be happy about anything happening in their own lives. This has to be one of the toughest phobias to have. It doesn’t seem like those with this phobia have the ability to be happy at all.

If you have Euphobia please share your story.

The Fear of Butterflies

Are you afraid of butterflies? There is no official name for this phobia, but it is referred to as Lepidopterphobia. This comes from the term Lepidopterans, which is the order of insects that include butterflies and moths. This phobia is also linked to Mottephobia, the fear of moths.

Since there is no official name for this phobia yet, there isn’t a lot of information about it so if you have this phobia please share your story.

Social Phobia: The Fear of Being Evaluated Negatively in Social Situations

One of the most common phobias is Social phobia and it is the 3rd largest mental health problem in the world. Social phobia, also known as social anxiety, is the irrational fear of being evaluated negatively in social situations. Approximately 7% of the population suffers from this phobia.

Those who suffer from Social phobia do not like to be out in public because they always feel like people are watching them. They know that they are not really being watched, but they can’t make that feeling stop. They also don’t like to do anything that involves talking to someone else whether it be in person or on the phone because they are afraid they are going to make a fool out of themselves. Making phone calls, going to the grocery store, going to a party or even going to church can be horrible experiences for these people.

Social phobia is a very troubling phobia because those who suffer from it have a serious inability to relax. They cannot enjoy life, because all they know is extreme anxiety. If you suffer from Social phobia please share your story.

Arachnophobia: The Fear of Spiders

I thought I would throw one of the most common phobias in tonight. Arachnophobia is the irrational and exaggerated fear of spider. Most of us know about this one and millions of people suffer from it.

Those who suffer from arachnophobia do not like to be anywhere spiders may be and they get anxious at the thought of spiders. When they see a spider or its web, they are likely to have severe panic attacks. Pictures and drawings of spiders can even cause uneasiness and fear.

The 1990 movie Arachnophobia was a nightmare for anyone who suffers from this phobia and I’m sure it caused a lot of people to have this phobia. I’m definitely not a big fan of the movie. I had a few sleepless nights because of that one.

This phobia is a hard one to deal with because spiders are everywhere. Every year, especially during the summer we have to fight them off at our house. We have brown recluses and black widows, among other less threatening spiders. I don’t have arachnophobia yet, but it could happen if we can’t get these guys under control.

If you have this phobia tell us your story.
