Methyphobia: The Fear of Alcohol

Methyphobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of alcohol.  Those who suffer from this phobia may also fear anyone who consumes or has consumed alcohol.  They will also avoid places where there is a possibility of being exposed to alcohol.  Methyphobia is also known as Potophobia.  It is closely related to Dipsophobia, the fear of drinking alcohol.
A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.
