Vermiphobia is the
abnormal and persistent fear of worms. Those with this phobia may also fear
caterpillars, maggots, grubs or even tapeworms.
Vermiphobes don’t like to go outside after it rains because the worms
and other critters will be out and more visible. They may also dislike being in or near a
garden. Severe cases of the phobia may
cause the person to fear being infected by worms. This phobia may be caused by an extreme
dislike of worms that eventually becomes a phobia. Vermiphobia is also known as Scoleciphobia.
A phobia is a strong,
persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons. The main symptom is an excessive and
unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include
shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall
