Verbophobia: The Fear of Words

Verbophobia is the persistent and abnormal fear of words. Can you imagine being afraid of words?  Think about what it would feel like to break into a sweat over the morning paper or to feel the need to avoid all sources of words.  This phobia has to be significantly life-altering.  Words are everywhere.  Look around your house and see how many words you see.

A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.

If you have ever had Verbophobia or know someone who does please share what you know about the phobia.
