Climacophobia: The Fear of Stairs


Climacophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of stairs. Those who suffer from this phobia especially fear climbing or falling down stairs.  Climacophobia can be caused by falling down stairs, having difficulty climbing stairs or having a panic attack while climbing stairs.  This phobia is closely related to Acrophobia, the fear of heights and Bathmophobia, the fear of stairs and slopes.

A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.
