Dementophobia: The Fear of Insanity

Dementopobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of insanity.  Those who suffer from this phobia feel they are losing touch with reality.  Dementophobia can be triggered by a family history of mental illness or severe stress.

A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities or persons.  The main symptom is an excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. Other phobia symptoms include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and an overall feeling of dread.  Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders.

Do you suffer from Dementophobia?  Please share your story.  How was it triggered and how does it affect your life?

I am 14 and even though I am young I still feel like I am fading off. Most people think nothing of if but I am afraid that I am losing my mind!I have learned to cope with myself over the years am thing have gotten easier but it is still something I work with though out my day's.

Well. I am 16 my friend and I suffer from the same thing. It never truly subsides but it can get very easy to tolerate at times. But at others like now its pretty difficult. I don't fully understand this yet but I am getting a grip on it. It sucks terribly and honestly I wish the thought never entered my head. But you know bad things happen.
